Vuelta champion Sepp Kuss welcomed to Bergà with chocolate cake made in his design at the Volta a Catalunya

Stage 6 of the 2024 Volta a Catalunya takes off from the cycling mad town of Bergà. One of the riders most warmly welcomed was the Vuelta a Espana champion, Sepp Kuss.

Prior to the start of the day's racing, the Team Visma | Lease a Bike star was greeted by a chocolate cake made in the design of himself. "Yeah I saw a picture of it in the local paper and they made a nice mona de Pascua [Easter Cake] of me, so that's really beautiful – they did a great job," Kuss told Cycling News. "And it's a beautiful stage, too, through a great area to ride and race. It's really nice that the Volta can take advantage of such an amazing area."

There is also expected to be a group of the local wing of the #GCKuss fanclub travelling to the Queralt climb in order to support their hero as he looks to battle the likes of Tadej Pogacar and Mikel Landa. "There's a Youtube channel who made a peña ciclista [fanclub] here. I was surprised at the number of people that registered and now they'll have a nice day watching the race," says Kuss warmly.

"For sure it's going to be a hard stage, and where Pradell is located is far from the finish, but just far enough," Kuss continues, previewing the stage itself. "It's sometimes better to have the toughest climb there so it creates some action that way."
