Galicia will once again take centre stage at the Vuelta a Espana in 2027, with the official start of the race set to take place in Santiago de Compostela. It will be the ninth time in history that the Spanish Grand Tour has started on Galician territory.
The 2027 Vuelta a Espana now has its starting point confirmed. Galicia will host the Official Start of La Vuelta 27, which will begin with a road stage starting in Santiago de Compostela. The announcement was made on Sunday morning, before the start of the final stage of La Vuelta 26, at an event held at the Punto de Encuentro.
The event was attended by Javier Guillen, general director of La Vuelta, and Marcos Gomez, commissioner of the Xacobeo Holy Year, in a presentation confirming the race’s return to Galicia for the start of its next edition.
Galicia will therefore once again occupy a prominent place on the route of the Spanish Grand Tour. With the 2027 start, it will be the ninth time La Vuelta has begun on Galician soil.

Ninth Vuelta start from Galicia

The first occasion dates back to 1965, while the most recent came in 2016. More than a decade after that last start, Galicia will once again become the setting chosen to launch a new edition of the race.
This time, Santiago de Compostela will also take a leading role, with the city hosting the start of the opening road stage. La Vuelta 27 will therefore once again link the beginning of the competition with one of Galicia’s most important landmarks.
The announcement comes while La Vuelta 26 is still being contested, but already lays the first foundations for the next edition. Further details about the full route and the characteristics of that opening stage will be revealed at a later date, but it is now confirmed that Galicia will be the starting point of La Vuelta 27.
