Pavel Bittner has sprinted to victory on the opening stage of the 2024 Vuelta a Burgos in a frantic finale in Burgos itself.
With three Spaniards getting themselves into the breakaway of the day, the most notable of who being Diego Pablo Sevilla of Team Polti Kometa, the peloton were always keeping the time gap manageable and with 14 kilometres left of the day, the catch was complete.
At the intermediate sprint, where bonus seconds were on offer, Team DSM-Firmenich's returning Max Poole bagged the three seconds, the could prove key in the general classification by the end of the race. From there, it was all about the bunch sprint finale. In the fight for the line, it was Poole's teammate Pavel Bittner who secured the win ahead of Giacomo Nizzolo and Ivan Garcia Cortina.
