Vuelta a Burgos 2024 | Caleb Ewan powers to victory on stage 2 as a number of GC hopefuls crash out

Team Jayco AlUla's Caleb Ewan has powered to victory on stage 2 of the 2024 Vuetla a Burgos. In truth however, it's day that will be remembered more for a massive crash.

Four Spaniards got themselves in the breakaway early on stage 2, including Team Polti Kometa's Diego Pablo Sevilla, wearing the King of the Mountains jersey, up the road and on the attack for the second day in a row. Heading into the final 20 kilometres, they maintained a lead of over a minute. Just the other side of the 20km to go banner however, there was a massive crash in the peloton that saw the likes of Tao Geoghegan Hart, Damiano Caruso and James Shaw forced to abandon the race.

With 6km to go, on the final rise to the line, the last of the breakaway were caught by the peloton. Rather than one of the climbers prevailing however, it was Caleb Ewan who powered to the victory ahead of Roger Adria and Ivan Garcia Cortina.
