Visma's DS Marc Reef says after bad day in Catalunya: "We went for it, but it didn't work"

Visma | Lease a Bike had a bad day in the Volta a Catalunya. While Steven Kruijswijk pushed a hard pace on Coll de Pradell, his leaders Sepp Kuss and Cian Uijtdebroeks were unable to follow the best and lost four and six minutes respectively, moving out of the overall top 10.

Sports director Marc Reef tells his story on the team's website. "Of course we hoped for more. Our goal before the stage started was to move up in the general classification with Sepp and Cian. That is why we decided to take the initiative. We had confidence in them, but unfortunately they didn't have good legs today. Sepp regrouped well on the final climb, but the energy tank was empty."

"That is also sport at the highest level. We went for it, but it didn't work. This result was the highest possible today. We have to accept that. Tomorrow we also have a tough final stage in Barcelona. Steven made a good impression today. In addition, Attila has proven in the past that the climb of Montjuïc suits him. We will see what is still possible for us there."
