Vingegaard success set to fuel Pogacar onto greater things according to George Bennett: “We rethought everything"

The rivalry between Tadej Pocagar and Jonas Vingegaard at the Tour de France over the last two years has been nothing short of thrilling and according to Pogacar's teammate George Bennett the Slovenian is now more focused than ever.

Bennett has experience on both sides of the divide having joined UAE Team Emirates last year from Jumbo-Visma. Speaking on Vingegaard's yellow jersey victory from 2022, Bennett told VeloNews, "for us, that's really just been a great thing."

“We rethought everything, every detail. Tadej used to win his races purely on class," the New Zealander explains. "But now we also look at the smaller things in terms of material, training, nutrition; everything. I think it makes us a much better team. Tadej is still the best rider in the world, but he was beaten by a team that had every little detail in order."

"That's something we have to deal with, it's not just about having the best rider," something that Bennett admits came as a shock to the system for UAE. "We have now brought in reinforcements and are in good shape," referring to the likes of Adam Yates, Jay Vine and Tim Wellens.
