The 20th stage of the Vuelta a Espana proved to be a more conservative day then what was expected, with the GC fight and stage win battle remaining to the last of around two dozens climbs. Wout Poels took the stage win over Remco Evenepoel, whilst Sepp Kuss consolidated his red jersey triumph.

The stage was won in the final sprint, where from a reduced group Wout Poels made an early bid for the line and won the stage in explosive fashion. Attacks from Enric Mas and Mikel Landa reduced the GC group, but the favourites arrived at the finish line together.
