Tadej Pogacar and
Jonas Vingegaard have faced off for the first time since the 2024 Tour de France at this
Criterium du Dauphiné. Whilst Jonas Vingegaard gave a better impression in the opening days of the race, in the first mountain battle, the World Champion has exploded all of his rivals on the Côte de Domancy.
Whilst in the penultimate climb of the day Visma had plenty riders and put Pogacar under pressure, the roles reversed on the final climb. Without the pure climbers, UAE used it's puncheurs to set a nuclear pace up the first kilometer of the climb, just as they did at Milano-Sanremo. Jhonatan Narváez and Tim Wellens set an incredible pace, and Pogacar attacked with over 7 kilometers to go to drop Vingegaard in his wake - whilst Remco Evenepoel and company had previously been dropped.
