The potentially decisive, stage 16 individual time-trail at the 2023
Tour de France is well underway. With rain in the air and thunderstorms potentially on the way,
John Degenkolb made a disastrous start to his effort.
The
Team DSM-Firmenich rider, a stage winner at the Tour de France in 2018, left the start ramp full of hope and optimism. Sadly for the 34-year-old German, he was unable to even make it through the first corner before losing his front wheel and sliding across the road. Thankfully, Degenkolb was fine to carry on, although understandably, his time is not currently near the top of the standings.
