Stage 9 of the Giro d'Italia was expected to be the most important one of the opening week, but that was ultimately not the case. Remco Evenepoel has won the stage and become the new leader of the race, but has had mixed feelings due to the small gaps.
The Belgian won only a few seconds over his most direct rivals, creating less differences than in the opening time-trial of the race. He has taken over the lead of Andreas Leknessund, but also the stage in which he beat Geraint Thomas and Tao Geoghegan Hart by only 1 and 2 seconds respectively.
