The third week of the
Giro d'Italia promised a lot of spectacle and it the fireworks were immense on stage 16. The summit finish to Monte Bondone gave no room to hide for the GC favourites, who for the first time created meaningful gaps in an uphill finish.
The stage was controlled by Jumbo-Visma mostly, but they were left to limit losses in the closing kilometers of the stage as
Primoz Roglic struggled and lost time. He finished third 25 seconds back on
João Almeida and
Geraint Thomas who attacked the hardest section of the ascent, with Thomas taking back the lead but with a small gap over the duo.
