Stage 4 of the
Tour de l'Avenir was another opportunity for the sprinters, before the race heads into its decisive days, and it was well taken. Luxembourg's Mathieu Kocklemann took a surprising victory beating some of the strongest under-23 sprinters in the world.
The fifth day of racing (counting with the prologue) saw the riders go from Montagnat to Val-Suran, a 110-kilometer day that only featured one significant climb but it was very early in the day to make the difference. A bunch sprint was inevitable, unless a breakaway were to succeed as in the previous stage. But this did not happen, and with a powerful sprint, the Lotto Development Team 21-year old was the fastest, beating Cesar Macias and Anze Ravbar.
