In the second stage of the
Giro d'Abruzzo,
Ivo Oliveira has taken the victory! In a race that only really came alive in the final kilometres, it was yet another win for UAE.
Day two of the race took the riders from Tocco da Casauria and to Penne. With 15km to go, the final breakaway rider (Samuele Zocaratto) was caught, and guess which team was leading the peloton? UAE Team Emirates - XRG of course, who seem intent on winning every single race so far in 2025.
With 5km to go, 19 year old Marco Martini made an attack to go for the stage win on home soil. Unfortunately, that effort was in vain and we was swallowed back into the back with 3km left, but he did at least provide some publicity for the sponsors of Team Technipes!
As the final climb began, the waiting game commenced in the peloton.
Team Polti VisitMalta led the UAE riders up the climb, before Q36.5 opened things up within the final mile.
Then, Ivo Oliveira launched a ferocious attack that left the peloton in his wake. Having ridden so strongly for his team yesterday, Oliveira was now getting a chance to ride for himself.
But had he gone too soon? Not quite, and with a look of pain stretched across his face, it was Oliveira who just about hung on for the win. Behind Oliveira, Flippo Fiorelli made sure there was an Italian name on the podium in second, and Marco Brenner took third.
Two from two so far for UAE in Italy.
