The World champion has taken her third win in the rainbow stripes. Elisa Balsamo won the Trofeo Alfredo Binda after resisting the attack that surged in the final climbs, and having the strongest sprint from the leading group.
The breakaway consistent of Michaela Drummond (Bepink), Giorgia Vettorello (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) and Gulnaz Khatuntseva (Roland Cogeas Edelweiss Squad). Drummond went clear with around 70 kilometers to go, however had no chance of surviving the chase as she was caught with 54 kilometers to go.
The race has seen plenty of attack since early on. The hilly circuit around Cittiglio proved perfect for aggressive racing, however not hard enough to make real differences. In the final climb Ashleigh Moolman Pasio and Liane Lippert put in digs that split the front group once more, but with the lack of collaboration the race came down to a sprint after 141 kilometers.
Team SD Worx did the leadout for Chantal van den Broek-Blaak but the Dutch was swarmed by the surge of Italian sprinters that came through. Elisa Balsamo found herself in the perfect position and took the win for Trek-Segafredo. Sofia Bertizzolo and Soraya Paladin completed the podium.
