Simon Yates had been eyeing Il Lombardia to finish off a mixed season, however the Briton will not take to the start as he concludes his season with immediate effect following a crash.
Team BikeExchange - Jayco took to social media this morning to announce it. Although specifics were not given, the team confirmed that Yates crashed during a training ride this Sunday and sustained minor injuries.
This will see Yates out of Il Lombardia where he was to be an outsider. Yates will not return to competition, but instead focus on his recovery before beginning the off-season and preparation towards the 2023 season where he will race alongside the Australian team for the tenth consecutive season.
Yates recently finished 12th at the Coppa Agostoni but did not finish the Giro dell'Emilia. He's won two stages at the Giro d'Italia, but has had to abandon both Grand Tours which he's started due to injuries and ilnesses that prevented him from fighting for the overall classification.
