Tour de France Femmes suffers huge loss as thigh infection forces Elisa Longo Borghini to withdraw; Elisa Balsamo abandons from fatigue

The Tour de France Femmes has been losing some of it's main figures, this morning Elisa Longo Borghini won't take to the start of the queen stage as she is in need to hospital treatment after developing a skin infection in the thigh.

The Italian rider was to be one of the main favourites for today's high mountain stage which will go up the Col du Tourmalet. She was until today having a very strong and consistent race and sat in fourth place, behind only Lotte Kopecky, Ashleigh Moolmaan-Pasio and Annemiek van Vleuten in the overall classification.

Simultaneously, the team announced the departure of Elisa Balsamo who has recently recovered from her injuries, and will not race the final two days of the competition which are very hard, in order to prepare for the World Championships.
