Tour de France Femmes suffers huge loss as thigh infection forces Elisa Longo Borghini to withdraw; Elisa Balsamo abandons from fatigue

The Tour de France Femmes has been losing some of it's main figures, this morning Elisa Longo Borghini won't take to the start of the queen stage as she is in need to hospital treatment after developing a skin infection in the thigh.
The Italian rider was to be one of the main favourites for today's high mountain stage which will go up the Col du Tourmalet. She was until today having a very strong and consistent race and sat in fourth place, behind only Lotte Kopecky, Ashleigh Moolmaan-Pasio and Annemiek van Vleuten in the overall classification.
Simultaneously, the team announced the departure of Elisa Balsamo who has recently recovered from her injuries, and will not race the final two days of the competition which are very hard, in order to prepare for the World Championships.

Among them, the central figure is his longtime friend Ziga Jerman, who took on the role of masseur in 2025. Jerman has known Pogačar since before his global fame, when they cycled together at the Ljubljana club Rog, so Elguezabal’s departure does not pose a threat for Pogi but rather marks the end of a very successful chapter. First, Remco must graduate from high school with excellent results to meet with the professor Pogacar in university and to be in same room with him. 🚨 Unfortunately @ElisaLongoB has also had to withdraw from the @LeTourFemmes ahead of today’s Col du Tourmalet stage, one which she was looking forward to. The Italian champion has a skin infection at the top of the left thigh, which required hospital treatment after #TDFF2023
🚨 @Elisa_balsamo won’t start @LeTourFemmes Stage 7 due to fatigue. She was making her return to racing at #TDFF2023 after her crash at RideLondon Classique and so it’s been decided to miss the last two stages with an eye on preparing for the World Championships in Glasgow.
