With only nine stages and four major jersey competitions to settle, there is little room to recover from lost time or missed opportunities. Bonus seconds, sprint points, mountain points, breakaway moves and decisive race incidents can all produce significant changes from one day to the next.
General Classification Standings after Stage 4
The outlook of the overall classification has changed completely this afternoon. The race's time trial had 21 kilometers in duration but it was enough to carve very meaningful gaps that mark the race quite deeply. Sigrid Haugset set off into the time trial with a pretty large margin but she has lost the yellow jersey today after losing it very quickly in the roads of Dijon.
Marlen Reusser won the stage and with it ascended from 11th place to the race lead, 14 seconds ahead of
Demi Vollering. The two have created a very large gap over the rest of the field and now stand out as the two main favourites to win the overall classification.
Cédrine Kerbaol stands out now in third place 54 seconds back whilst Haugset is the only other rider within a minute of Reusser. Elisa Longo Borghini, Katarzyna Niewiadoma, Paula Blasi, Anna van der Breggen, Antonia Niedermaier and Femke de Vries complete the Top10.
Kim Le Court, Noemi Rüegg and Puck Pieterse all lost meaningful time in an effort that didn't suit their capacities.
And
Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, despite her best efforts, struggled deeply in her first time trial in years. She has lost her place in the Top10 and the defending champion is now 14th in the overall, 2:13 minutes behind Reusser and with a very difficult task at hand if she aims to defend her title over the coming days.

Points Classification Standings after Stage 4
Loren Wiebes maintains the lead of the points classification safely over the race's time trial. The green jersey is unlikely to change hands over the final stages of the race as the stages provide less points. Sigrid Haugset maintains second place, leading a tight bunch behind consisting of mostly classics riders.
Marlen Reusser has broken into the Top10 with today's victory in the time trial; but it is expected that Noemi Rüegg and Kim Le Court will be Wiebes' main rivals over the coming stages.
