Israel - Premier Tech have lost an important piece of their cobbled classics block as
Tom Van Asbroeck will be forced to miss out on racing for the upcoming period as he's suffered a superficial vein thrombosis due to a recent crash.
The Belgian has had a crash recently which has injured his right arm, and he has been diagnosed with a superficial vein thrombosis. According to the team, Van Asbroeck "will undergo anticoagulation treatment in the next weeks in order to resolve the issue. While Tom can continue to train conservatively during this time, he will not be able to race due to the risks posed..."
His return to racing will depend on how his recovery goes. Van Asbroeck finished 19th at the Tour des Flandres and eighth at Paris-Roubaix last year. Sep Vanmarcke has had a far from ideal run-up to the classics with illness but will be the team leader for the upcoming races, although the likes of Jakob Fuglsang and Guillaume Boivin will present plausible alternatives.
