Tom Pidcock abandons Itzulia Basque Country after falling in a recon of initial time-trial

INEOS Grenadiers hoped to start Itzulia Basque Country with a very strong lineup including two leaders in Carlos Rodríguez and Tom Pidcock. However, they will have to do without the Briton, who has crashed in a recon of today's time-trial and is forced to not take to the start of the race.

"Tom Pidcock has unfortunately been withdrawn from Itzulia 2024 after crashing during a recon of the TT course," the British team wrote. "Following consultation between our Team doctor and the race medical team, Tom has been taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. Updates to follow." This is a big hit for Pidcock who is hoping to use these high-level stage-races to prepare for the Tour de France where he is hoping to fight for the overall classification.
