No longer active in the professional peloton, Tom Dumoulin will soon have his hands full in his homelife after the 33-year-old Dutchman announced he's soon to become a father for the first time.
As the 2024 Giro d'Italia was concluding in Rome, the winner of the Maglia Rosa in 2017 took to his official Instagram account to announce the news. "Soon to be three," captioned the former Jumbo-Visma and Team Sunweb star pictures of himself, his partner and an image of a scan of their little baby.
Since announcing his retirement back in August 2022, Dumoulin has kept himself active and last year clocked the very impressive time of 1.10.04 in the Amsterdam half marathon, proving he is still in a tip-top shape of physical fitness.
Dumoulin has also been very open and honest about his struggles with mental health whilst on the bike which eventually led to his abrupt retirement. "I am happy that I quit the sport at a relatively young age. The most beautiful feeling you can have as a cyclist. You're constantly chasing that feeling when everything is going well," he told the Geraint Thomas Cycling Club Podcast last year. "That's such a good feeling. Fortunately, I have been able to experience that several times during my career. It's something you will never experience again for the rest of your life."
