For Uno-X Mobility, today was meant to be a full day of celebration as the team achieved it's first ever Tour de France win through the masterful performance of Tobias Johannessen. The Norwegian team is now having to protect Tobias Johannessen who is getting a swarm of threats and hate on social media after having played a role in Tadej Pogacar's crash late on stage 11.
The Norwegian rider put on another strong ride into Toulouse to maintain his place in the race's Top10. After the aggressive final ascent of the day, the GC group moved quickly towards the finish line. Johannessen looked to follow one of the many attacks that were taking place, which combined with Pogacar's use of the radio at the same moment led to a fall. Whilst general consensus is it was a race incident, not everyone felt the same.
"I am terribly sorry for what happened to Tadej Pogacar. I was trying to follow a move and I can see that I was to close. I thought everyone would move to the right, but I made a mistake and would like to say sorry again. I hope he is as good as he can be after a crash like that," Johannessen said in a message shared on X.
However the worrying second post of the young climber shares a dark side of the sport's fans. Only hour and a half after the finale of the stage, Johannessen reveals that he is being target of many threats through his messages. He has explained this in clear words, simultaneously expressing concern over his situation:
"I would of course like to do it again and do it differently, but I can’t. That feels shit, but I would not wish anyone the amount of threats I get in my inbox. I am terrible sorry but also terrified of the hate from all the people. This feels very scary".
