Alex Baudin of AG2R Citroën Team has been suspended by his team and had his Giro d'Italia results nullified following a positive for the painkiller tramadol, in a response the French rider says he will contest the decision.
“This calls into question my sporting integrity. Yesterday I received a letter from the UCI stating that tramadol had been found in my blood after a check after the 17th stage of the Giro d'Italia," Baudin said in a statement. "At first I didn't understand what was going on, but then I realized how serious the situation was. From an early age I have practiced this sport, which I love, in an ethical way and with respect.”
Baudin goes on to defend himself and revealing that he will appeal the decision in the TAS, trying to restore his integrity. The case is very similar to that of Nairo Quintana, however the Colombian tested positive on two separate days through the same race.
Baudin may face a long and difficult road ahead in terms of his career, despite still having a contract until next season with AG2R. “I am appealing this decision because it questions my sporting integrity. I hope everything will be resolved as soon as possible.”
