Jonas Vingegaard made his season debut in O
Gran Camiño, the Danish rider of Team
Jumbo-Visma saw his team controlling the stage, and launched a powerful attack on the last 2 km of Monte Trega that secured him a solid solo victory.
"I am very happy to win. I gave everything and wanted to win today. I wanted it for my family and my girlfriend. Furthermore, I felt good all day and my teammates worked very hard for me," Vingegaard said in the post-race interview.
Despite the climb having a little surprise on the last Km with a cobbled section, nothing stopped Vingegaard ´who with this win is now the leader of the race. 21 seconds ahead of Ruben Guerreiro of Movistar Team and 24 seconds ahead of Ion Izagirre of Team Cofidis. Tomorrow will be another mountainous stage and Jonas is confident that he will secure the GC victory.
"The final climb was very tough, especially with the cobblestones at the end. It's cool that it worked out. We now have the leader's jersey and will try to hold on to it. The goal is to win the general classification," concluded Vingegaard.
