The recent winner of the Santos Tour Down Under, many expected Jay Vine to produce similarly good form at the UAE Tour. So far it has not transpired as such however with Vine placed 103rd after 2 stages, 2:20 down but not out.

"We are optimistic, but also realistic. Optimistic because our rides are still to come, but realistic because we have already lost time and need to gain it back," UAE Team Emirates boss, Joxean Matxin Fernandez said following the conclusion of stage 2.

"Our focus is on winning a stage, while at the same time we will see how the battle for the classification develops," he continues. "The course is not over yet." Indeed he is correct, there is still time for Vine and teammate Adam Yates, currently 1:09 down on overall leader Luke Plapp but the likelihood of UAE Team Emirates defending the UAE Tour title they won through Tadej Pogacar in 2022 is dwindling.
