Sven Vanthourenhout was part of the Belgian national
coaching team that led their star rider
Remco Evenepoel to become the
first man
to win the Olympic road race and time trial at the same games. But, nearly two
months since leaving his role with the Belgian cycling association, he
announced on
Instagram that he is still without a permanent role, despite rumours linking him to various teams.
“Because many ask themselves the question and ask me the
question: No, my future is not yet fixed!” Said Vanthourenhout, who has been linked with
Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe. “The
conversations I have had have been interesting and inspiring here and there,
but have not led to a signature. Either from their side or from mine.”
With his experience, this is a surprise, and many believed
he would join Evenepoel again at Soudal-Quick Step. But, as of yet, there have
been no conformations as to what his future holds.
“I have enjoyed being home for a while in recent
weeks, being able to clear my head and watch cyclocross as a regular fan of the
sport,” said Vanthourenhout, who has also helped
Wout van Aert when racing for
the national team in recent years.
“Now it is slowly becoming time to look forward to what will
come next. There are possibilities, I have possibilities, and I am open to
everything within and outside of sports. On to the future!”
