Not even in its fourth year among pros will Team Polti Kometa be missing at the start of the Giro d'Italia. The announcement arrived today and the Italian team will thus join Israel - Premier Tech, Tudor Pro Cycling and VF Group-Bardiani-CSF-Faizane for the Italian Grand Tour.
"Teams like ours start talking about wild cards when the previous edition ends," comments manager Ivan Basso. "Receiving one for the Giro and other such prestigious races is a source of great pride, a reward for our continuity and our way of interpreting the race beyond the results."
"Giro will be the backbone of the entire Polti Kometa calendar and we will race it with the right mentality: attacking but orderly, to be able to seize every opportunity and repay the organizers, fans, sponsors... and ourselves for their trust pay us back."
Obviously, there is also enthusiasm from general director Fran Contador: "Being at the start of a Grand tour like Giro d'Italia is fundamental for us, it's vital. It allows us to continue to grow as a structure, it allows us to continue to grow at a sporting level and also to guarantee a return at the highest levels for our sponsors, for the brands that have placed their trust in us. Today is a truly very special day, which gives us further incentive to work towards having a great Giro and in general a great season worthy of this invitation."
