The Grand Depart of the 2024 Tour de France will take place on Italian roads, with a stage from Florence to Rimini. The plan is for an up and down parcour of 206km. Mother Nature may have other plans however.
According to reports by Sporza, in recent days, this particular region of Italy has been battered by heavy downpours, resulting in some severe flooding in the area. In some places, there has been more than 100 millimetres of rain in the last few days, with the roads between kilometres 63 and 73 of the expected stage 1 profile of the 2024 Tour de France being especially badly affected.
With just four days to go until the peloton takes to the area with the Grand Depart of the 2024 Tour de France, local workers now face a race against time to clear the roads of water and debris. Thankfully, there is expected to be some sunshine over the weekend but time will tell exactly what happens with the situation.
