The Paris Olympic Games provided cycling with an opportunity to go through new roads in Paris and the main attraction of the road race was without a doubt the cobbled climb to the Montmartre Basilica. Although it was a big request, the Olympics' success was so big that the city has allowed the Tour de France to now have it's final stage go through the district.
This has been widely discussed for several months now, but there is no shadow of a doubt left. It is no longer a rumour, but instead a fact, as the race organizers confirmed on social media this morning that the route will be crossing the area once again.
On the 21st of May there will be more details following, but it is clear that this will be in the final stage of the race and could even turn the return to the Champs-Elysées into a day where we may not only wait for a bunch sprint, but instead have an explosive circuit where the classics riders can try and surprise and make for a more exciting final day in the race.
