Hoole was eventually unseated however, by Movistar Team's Alex Aranburu, who clocked 13:41 with his efforts against the clock. Following the Spaniard, Quinten Hermans crossed the line 24 seconds slower, Rasmus Tiller 7 seconds behind. The next man to move into the hotseat however, was
Mathias Vacek, beating Aranburu by 14 seconds.
The stage was then delayed for a short while, due to
a medical emergency on the course. Once the racing resumed, it didn't take long for Vacek's time to be beaten with Uno-X Mobility's Soren Waerenskjold clocking a faster time by just under 3 seconds. From there, although the likes of Kasper Asgreen and Rune Herrogodts came close, no one could beat the Norwegian national champion.
