Uno-X Mobility's Soren Waerenskjold has powered to the stage win in the opening stage time-trial of the 2024 Baloise Belgium Tour, clocking a time 2.46 seconds faster than anyone else.
Among the big names to go off early, Daan Hoole set a benchmark time of 13:42. That effort looked set to spend a while in the hotseat too as names such as Jasper Philipsen, Logan Currie, Ivan Romeo and Damien Touze among others went slower.
Hoole was eventually unseated however, by Movistar Team's Alex Aranburu, who clocked 13:41 with his efforts against the clock. Following the Spaniard, Quinten Hermans crossed the line 24 seconds slower, Rasmus Tiller 7 seconds behind. The next man to move into the hotseat however, was Mathias Vacek, beating Aranburu by 14 seconds.
The stage was then delayed for a short while, due to a medical emergency on the course. Once the racing resumed, it didn't take long for Vacek's time to be beaten with Uno-X Mobility's Soren Waerenskjold clocking a faster time by just under 3 seconds. From there, although the likes of Kasper Asgreen and Rune Herrogodts came close, no one could beat the Norwegian national champion.
