BPost is a postal mail company but this Tuesday it has been hitting headlines in the world of cycling for the worst reasons. A driver reportedly opened a van door which Olympic Champion Remco Evenepoel could not avoid, causing a crash that is likely to have led to a collarbone fracture. The company has spoken out about the accident, confirming this detail.
"We confirm that an incident occurred this morning involving a bpost van and cyclist Remco Evenepoel. Unfortunately, we cannot go into the details of the accident, but it goes without saying that the postman and bpost are fully cooperating with the investigation," it was said.
Het Nieuwsblad and Het Laatste Nieuws both reported the details of the incident, and have shared pictures from bystanders who were present in the aftermath. Evenepoel was complaining about pain in an arm and shoulder and later Het Nieuwsblad have written about a fractured collarbone. This detail is yet to be confirmed.
"The police arrived on site to make the necessary observations. The postman also remained at the scene until Remco could be taken to hospital. She is extremely affected by the incident. We wish Remco a speedy recovery and we hope that the consequences for him will be kept to a minimum."
