"Seixas is still twenty, that will matter" - French super talent warned to steer clear from 2027 Giro d'Italia

Paul Seixas ahead of La Fleche Wallonne 2026
The 2027 Giro d'Italia features seven summit finishes and multiple historic climbs that make up a very difficult route. On the CyclingUpToDate, Rúben Silva and Gavin Quinn have argued that the Frenchman should aim for the Tour de France instead.
"I think Seixas should focus on the Tour World Championships," Silva argued on this week's episode. The argument was based on Seixas' specialties, which include the time trials; and his weakness - at this point in time, endurance and recovery - comparing to his direct rivals.
"When you talk about a rider of such talent, it's difficult to say it doesn't suit him, I think any race will suit him in some way. But I think the Tour's time trials, the more flat stages, which means that recovery is less important than at the Giro..."
Seixas could aim for a Tour de France that features over 70 kilometers of flat time trialing kilometers, fitted to the World Championships' bronze medal. Otherwise, the Giro d'Italia course heavily favours the climbers instead.
The race's sheer brutality, featuring seven summit finishes and two time trials will favour those with plenty experience in the three-week races. "Seixas is still twenty, that will matter," he warned.
"He would be smart, in my opinion, to aim for the Tour-World Championships. Let the Giro for another year. It makes full sense to go there (to the Tour, ed.)".

Tour de France above Giro d'Italia on Seixas' specialties

The time trial-heavy Tour de France course may prove to be too much of an influence on the Frenchman's decision, even if the young super talent stated that he was open to choosing the Giro d'Italia as his Grand Tour of choice for 2027.
"After the Tour de France, I was of the opinion that a Giro d'Italia would be beneficial for Seixas to ride. Not necessarily because of the route or what was rumoured, more so just for his development and the potential to win a Grand Tour, with the Tour de France probably offering a podium next season at best".
But as was the case with Remco Evenepoel, both agreed that the route reveals showcased a route suited better to both in France.
"Now that the designs have come out, the Tour de France is great for Paul Seixas. You know, the time trial kilometers, the emphasis on a select few mountain stages, it does play into his favour a little bit more".
Whilst Seixas could aim for and even be a main favourite to win the Corsa Rosa, that would also largely depend on his competition. "So there is a bit more on offer, I guess, for Paul Seixas than what is at the Giro," Quinn concluded.
