Season likely over for Sylvain Moniquet after surgery for sprained ligament

Lotto Soudal's exciting 24-year-old Belgian prospect, Sylvain Moniquet has suffered a potentially season ending injury. After an accident at his home, it was revealed Moniquet had suffered a sprained ligament in his hand.

After a successful surgery, Lotto have announced Moniquet is "now recovering." With the expected recovery time being at least a couple of weeks it looks as if the Belgian is more than likely done for the season. Moniquet himself however is staying positve, taking to twitter to announce the following "I had an emergency surgery this monday due to a ligament rupture in my hand, I will be out for a while and I will miss the Italian races but the Langkawi tour is still possible."

A positive 2022 saw Sylvain Moniquet finish a very respectable 48th in the Giro D'Italia, 7th at the Deutschland Tour and an 8th placed finish at Classic Grand Besançon Doubs. For Lotto Soudal overall it's been a tougher year with the team looking likely to suffer relegation from the UCI World Tour Rankings.
