For SD Worx, the party never seems to end. The team has won nearly everything there was to win in 2023 and has multiple riders able to win on any give parcours. Sports Director Lars Boom talks how his riders would go through fire for each other.
"We have trained very hard in recent months and we also have a lot of fun together," says Boom, who also emphasizes the importance of the new riders. "Last winter the foundation was laid for that. A number of girls have come in who fit well within the team, which makes the atmosphere better. They all do something for the other and get that back from each other. We are therefore in a good flow."
"The goodwill factor also stems from the fact that everyone gets a chance," says Boom. "If you give domestiques a chance to win a race, they will later go through fire for their leader. Some riders also know that they have been hired as domestiques. We enjoy every race we win, but we also have to work very hard and suffer for it. The level in the WorldTour is slightly higher than in Thuringen, where we managed to win all stages, with domestiques too. Yet it remains extremely difficult to win races."
How is a team victory celebrated? "Toast with a glass of wine and then on to the next race. So we celebrate every win, but there are many races in a season that we want to win. I hope for just over forty victories, because then one of our mechanics will have a tattoo done," the former professional cyclist concludes with a smile.
