Ruben Guerreiro experienced a very rough start to the Tour de France with several crashes, and on the day where the peloton entered the high mountains where the Portuguese was expected to thrive,
Update: Contrary to early reports, he's abandoned the race citing fatigue and Covid symptoms, however the team has said to be non-COVID related.
The news were broke by Portuguese newspaper 'A Bola' and confirm the climbers' departure. Guerreiro was the winner of the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge back in June and after an equally strong ninth place at the Critérium du Dauphiné where he excelled in the mountainous stages, he was expected to be a headliner in the breakaways of the roughest stages of the Tour.
EF Education-EasyPost are taking the KOM jersey to the ninth stage with Magnus Cort Nielsen, and remain positive on Rigoberto Urán and Neilson Powless' GC ambitions who are currently 16th and 8th respectively.
