The third stage of the
Deutschland Tour concluded with
Alexander Kristoff’s victory.
Team DSM rider
Romain Bardet was part of the breakaway but could not hold the lead and finished in 26th position.
Bardet was thinking of taking an early lead at the start of the stage, but the peloton did on allow him to do it. "It was the first proper hard day of racing today with things opening up with 50k to go. The team did a good job to bring me in position into the main climb," said Bardert.
He again tried in the last few kilometers, but his legs gave up soon and Kristoff finished ahead of him.“I tried to follow the dangerous moves and managed to grab a few seconds along the way in the last sprint. We're looking forward for tomorrow’s stage now,” concluded Bardert. He currently holds 14th position in GC, 9 seconds behind overall leader Alberto Bettiol.
