Has the Tour de France 2023 been decided? In the past mountain stages, Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar were still very evenly matched, but in the individual time trial from Passy to Combloux the Dane managed to pull out merciless ride.
Vingegaard turned out to be in a class of its own in Tuesday's timetrial, much to Richard Plugge's delight. "This is a huge step. I'm not going to cheer because it's only over in Paris, but we are now 3-0 ahead in the Champions League final."
Yet Plugge does not want to blow too high off the tower yet. "It will only be decided on Sunday, on the line in Paris. We just have to keep doing what we are good at step by step. We've completely worked out our tactics and have stuck to the plan so far. We will continue to do that."
"You don't know what will happen tomorrow. Then it is another tough day and then differences can arise again. The Col de la Loze is just a nasty climb and then you have the Vosges on Saturday," the team manager is wary.
