Stage 3 of the Tour de Wallonie was a stage for the sprinters and puncheurs, with a slight rise to the line making it a tricky finish. However, only a few men would go on to fight for it, as a massive fall in the peloton left only a few riders at the head. Laurence Pithie benefited from a perfect leadout by Red Bull - BORA - hansgrohe to take the stage win.
The third stage of the race featured a mostly flat profile, however with a small rise to the line in Vaux-sur-Sûre. Jonah Killy, George Wood, Alvaro Sagrado, Filippo Conca, Jarno Bellens and Senne Thonnon formed the day's breakaway.
The group wouldn't threaten the stage and the last of the survivors would be caught just outside the final 10 kilometers. A bunch sprint was to take place, with all teams saving up their cards for the final kilometers in order to go for the win. But a crash just outside the final kilometer split the peloton fully, with BORA and INEOS having several men in front but not many more.
Jordi Meeus and Danny van Poppel both worked at the front to bring Laurence Pithie to the front and the Kiwi puncheur sprinted to victory at the finish line. He beat Kim Heiduk of INEOS to the line; whilst Krists Neilands rode to third on the day. All three riders captured important bonus seconds that will help them in the overall classification.
