Stage 6 of Paris-Nice was another punchy day and although the sprinters had the opportunity to succeed, it was a late attack from XDS Astana Team rider Harold Tejada which ended up leading to success. The Colombian rider was successful after an opportunistic attack in the final kilometers.
The breakaway of the day consisted of Arthur Kluckers, Joshua Tarling, Igor Arrieta and Steff Cras. The quartet never enjoyed much of a gap however there were commitment issues in the peloton. Cofidis worked had to control the group however there weren't many teams pushing the pace throughout the day to keep the group in check.
Lidl-Trek tried to split things up on the penultimate climb and descent late in the day however it was not possible to do much damage. It was a day for a potential sprint or late attack to succeed, however it was ridden by pace all day long both in the front and in the peloton.
The peloton entered the climb 30 seconds in arrears but the gap did not begin to come down as Arrieta and Tarling accelerated right from the base and in the peloton no-one took over the pace over Victor Campenaerts at first. Lenny Martínez attacked once the riders arrived at the final 7% ramp with 5 kilometers to go, catching Tarling and Arrieta whilst being followed by Jonas Vingegaard and the main GC men.
Over the top of the climb Harold Tejada attacked and then carried the gap into the very fast descent and straight into the final kilometer. The Colombian rode to the stage win whilst behind Dorian Godon sprinted to second place for INEOS Grenadiers.
