The fourth stage of the Renewi Tour has seen a bunch sprint for the victory. It was Sam Welsford who took the victory after surviving the several crashes in the final kilometers.
Aaron van Poucke, Ludovic Robeet, Kamiel Bonneau and Ceriel Desal formed the day's breakaway but it wasn't long lived, brought back with 59 kilometers to go as the strong winds led to a lot of tension and attempts throughout the day.
A nervous stage, it saw a few crashes, a few splits, and then some action in the green kilometer where Mike Teunissen and Matteo Trentin took the first places respectively. However the battle was for the stage win later on in the sprint.
There were splits with only a few riders arriving in front, with Lotto Dstny nailing the leadout with a late surge. However he didn't have the speed to take the stage win in the final sprint, also after putting in the effort to take time in the bonified points.
There was a photo-finish sprint at the end of the day, one which saw Sam Welsford taking the win. It was the Team DSM-Firmenich's first World Tour win, beating Olav Kooij and Jasper Philipsen to the line.
