Rémi Cavagna has not had a very successful season after a complicated off-season with a serious injury, however today he seemed to be back on the path and was close to get back to his winning ways.
"I'm not necessarily very happy. I started very well, I caught up with three guys in front of me before the first intermediate score. But afterwards, I had a little wavering which lasted 8 to 9 minutes," Cavagna said after his effort. "The heat and then 10 kilometers before the finish, I managed to "get back on the road". It's a good time".
After putting in a lot of work for Remco Evenepoel throughout the opening week, the Frenchman found himself close to the bottom of the overall classification, which saw him start off his effort early yesterday. He crossed the line with over 54Km/h average speed, and it was an effort that was unmatched by the competition. Until the very last...
Cavagna's time stood tall until Primoz Roglic crossed the line, removing the Frenchman off the throne hours after. His teammate Evenepoel however took the lead with a blistering time and took the stage win, however it was nevertheless a disappointing result for Cavagna who is yet to win this season.
