Remco Evenepoel showcases top form by breaking Mount Teide Strava records

As the first Grand Tour of year nears, Remco Evenepoel has laid down a marker by showcasing some top form as he smashed the Strava record for Mount Teide during a recent training camp.

Using a camp on Mount Teide as part of his Giro d'Italia preparation, the current road race world champion has set multiple new records for the ascent. Conquering the western ascent of the volcano in Tenerife faster than anyone, Evenepoel has also set a new fastest time on the 24.55km ride from the village of Chio to the peak.

The previous quickest times included efforts by the likes of Chris Froome, Louis Vervaeke and Miguel Angel Lopez. Meanwhile Evenepoel's new record ascent time of the 27.24km, 6% climb from La Orotava decimated the previous record held by Damiano Caruso.

The 23-year-old steps up his Giro preparation at the Volta a Catalunya on the 20th of March before taking on the challenges posed by De Brabantse Pijl and Liège-Bastogne-Liège before his quest for Pink begins on May 6th.
