Belgium had a tremendous year when it came to cycling and the awards for the nation's riders were attributed yesterday. Both Remco Evenepoel and Lotte Kopecky headlined the ceremony and received the main awards.
Evenepoel's comes as little surprise. Although the Soudal - Quick-Step rider didn't manage to race for the GC at the Grand Tours, he still won stages and lead both Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a Espana temporarily; alongside wins at the time-trial World Championships, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Clásica San Sebastián.
Kopecky on the other hand also pulled off a rainbow jersey, but on the women's road race in Glasgow. The Team SD Worx rider was a big part of the team's success. Among others, she won the Tour of Flanders, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, both national championships and finished second at the Tour de France Femmes where she also took the first win and led most of the race.
Lastly Alec Segaert was also awarded during the ceremony as the best young talent of the year. The Lotto Dstny rider was crowned the under-23 European Champion this season.
