The immediate future of the 2023 Tour de Suisse is still uncertain. With stage 6 being neutralised following the sad death of Gino Mäder, the possibility of racing in the coming days remains up for debate.
“Today should only be about Gino. Our focus today was on organizing the memory ride in memory of him," said the race organiser in an arranged press conference. “We have spoken to his parents and they have told us that we should not be sad and that we should remember him positively. Making a decision about this now is not easy. Everyone is emotional, we all knew Gino.”
“We have to discuss whether it is safe to organize another race. We will do this with the CPA and the UCI, among others. It will be an open discussion and then a decision will be made," he concludes.
We ride for you Gino!❤️
