Protest in Liège-Bastogne-Liège rumoured due to Rusvelo riders' situation

Due to the sanctions applied from the UCI to Russian and Belarusian teams, the riders of the former Gazprom-Rusvelo team - in the meantime turned into just Gazprom - have frequently complained about the harshness of the measures, that are having a negative effect on their careers.

This week, former Rusvelo riders Nicola Conci and José Manuel Diaz have taken to Twitter to share a message regarding their current situation, in which they are not allowed to race and sit without a contract: "We waited and worked with you and CPA in a professional way, but you now need to take your responsibilities and solve our situation. The time of answers has come. Stop talking start doing. Our Future depends from your choices,"

Gazzetta dello Sport reporter Ciro Scognamiglio has informed that sources have mentioned of the possibility of a protest on the startlist this Sunday at Liège-Bastogne-Liège. According to Scognamiglio, there is an "option on the table to postpone the start of 5 minutes to push UCI to find a solution for the Gazprom-Rusvelo case".

At the time being, no solution has yet been found, however the pressure from the riders and the peloton as a whole is piling on for a solution to the riders who have been stranded without pay and "our right to do our job being revoked".
