Lotto Dstny's Andreas Kron impressed as he rode to a fourth-placed finish at the 2023 Amstel Gold Race. Finishing 2:14 behind the eventual winner however, Kron admits that Pogacar was on another level to the rest of the field.
"It was a very tough race, I would have liked to finish with Pogacar," the 24-year-old Dane revealed immediately following the finish in his post-race interview. "Then in the end I came with Lutsenko and we were very close to Pidcock. So at the moment I'm a bit disappointed not to have been able to reach the podium but I'm happy with how the race went today."
"I had never been in that situation, I knew he had a very good sprint at the end and if we hadn't hesitated we could have caught him, but that's part of racing," continues Kron who alongside Lutsenko finished in the same time as Pidcock although the line came just soon enough for the INEOS Grenadiers rider to hold on to the final spot of the podium.
"I stayed with Lutsenko, who was very strong and then we were able to roll and get close," says Kron. "Pogacar is on another level, he changed bikes, came back and attacked."
