Plugge on Jumbo's Vuelta goal: "We've already won it three times with Primoz and Jonas is also a huge contender, so we're definitely going for the win"

Richard Plugge, general manager of Jumbo-Visma, talks about the ultimate goal for the Vuelta a Espana, and also the moment he told rival team leader Patrick Lefevere about Jonas Vingegaard's intentions to race the Spanish Grand Tour.

“His facial expression was priceless. I was on the phone with him. And then he asked me if we only went to the Vuelta with Primoz. I told him afterwards that Jonas was going too," Plugge told Wielerflits. "You should have seen his face, haha.”

Whilst Soudal - Quick-Step, after having Evenepoel abandon the Giro d'Italia, will return in pursuit of revenge and a second consecutive win at the Vuelta, Jumbo-Visma will provide a tough challenge. Primoz Roglic, winner of the Giro, will be trying to go for his fourth title, but the Dutch team will also count with the presence of Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard.

"We've already won it three times with Primoz and Jonas is also a huge contender, so we're definitely going for the win," Plugge confirms, the two-pronged approach is something that had already been in mind for the team, as they seek to win all three Grand Tours in one season and further boost their status as a leader in the three-week races.
