Pello Bilbao won yesterday's stage of the Tour de France, managed to fulfil his goal and tribute Gino Mäder, gotten himself deep in the fight for the overall classification, and has now signed a new contract with
Bahrain - Victorious. A busy yet incredibly successful 24 hours for the Basque climber.
“I am thrilled to extend my contract with Team Bahrain Victorious. Over the past few years, I have felt like a part of this family. I’m in a place where I get the full support of my teammates and staff, and I’m looking forward to contributing to the team’s future successes," the 33-year old said in a press release, where it was announced he'll stay with the team for another three seasons after signing in 2020.
Bilbao continues to prove to be one of the most consistent and versatile riders in the peloton with his recent triumph, ever since joining Bahrain he's taken victories in several high-level stage-races, finished fifth twice at the Giro d'Italia and has finished a Tour de France in the Top 10 alongside 2023 where besides the stage win, he can repeat that feat. Besides all his victories he's also proven to be a high scorer of UCI points and a very valuable domestique at times.
Hence it comes with no surprise that despite his 33 years of age the team was keen on renewing with him with a long-term contract, now put to paper and reality. “We are delighted to have Pello extend his contract with us. His dedication and exceptional performance have made him an invaluable rider to the team," DS Milan Ezren said. "Pello’s experience and leadership qualities have been an important part of our achievements, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth and success in the years to come. We are proud to have him as part of our family.”
