The use of EPO by
Fabio Mazzucco has put his career in jeopardy. An out-of-competition test conducted on January 18 detected the presence of the banned substance in his system. He faces a four-year suspension from racing.
Erythropoietin (EPO) is a well-known term in the cycling community, and although the
UCI has implemented the Athlete Biological Passport program, Continental teams are not necessarily mandated to participate.
His participation in the
GP Industria & Artigianato and Per Sempre Alfredo races both ended with a DNF. Moreover, although he completed the Coppi e Bartali tour, his results may be disqualified.
The UCI's provisional suspension prohibits him from participating in competitions, and he is poised to be banned from competing for four years under the WADA Code.
