Stage 4 held the second punchy finish of the 2025
Tour de France and once again,
Jonas Vingegaard was right there in the mix. Just like on stage 2, the Dane was only bettered by
Tadej Pogacar and
Mathieu van der Poel, but regardless, Vingegaard sees plenty of reasons to be positive heading into the stage 5 individual time trial.
“I felt really strong today. I'm very happy to have stayed with him on the climb. We’re pleased with how things are going," reflected the
Team Visma | Lease a Bike leader in
post-stage comments collected by Feltet.dk. "I think I put out one of the best one-minute power efforts of my career, so I’m really happy with how I rode. It just shows once again that I’ve become more explosive.”
Still though, beating his long-time rival Pogacar on these types of finish is a challenge for Vingegaard. “Tadej is riding incredibly well," admits the Dane honestly. "He looked really strong and he deserved the stage win today."
And as has been the case throughout the first four stages of the 2025 Tour de France, Team Visma | Lease a Bike looked strong as a team. “It was UAE who took charge. You can have your own plans, but when they go on the offensive like that, all you can really do is try to follow,” Vingegaard explained. “The key was to be first into the descent. It was quite tricky, so positioning was crucial.”
All eyes now turn towards stage 5, where a time trial is likely to put the first serious time differences between Pogacar and Vingegaard. “It’s obviously not the most favourable time trial for me. I think it suits Remco better — and maybe also Pogacar," previews the Dane in conclusion. "But of course, I’ll give it everything I’ve got. I’ve done some good time trials this year, so I’m hopeful I can put in another strong performance tomorrow.”
