Movistar Team and Iván Romeo have agreed to extend the Spanish national champion with the Spanish World Tour team through 2030, cementing his role as a cornerstone of the Spanish squad’s long-term project, avoiding their new jewel from slipping into the transfer market.
Romeo, who joined the team in 2023 and extended through 2028 at the end of 2024, now adds two more seasons, reaffirming a shared commitment to a long-term pathway.
At 22, Iván Romeo has established himself as one of Spain’s standout riders and a leading under-23 graduate with major upside in the international peloton. Born in Valladolid on 16th of August 2023, the Castilian rider has shown steady progress since arriving, impressing in both one-day classics and stage-races.
Across 2025 and 2026, Romeo has taken six pro wins with Movistar Team. In 2025 he claimed a stage at the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana, a stage at the Critérium du Dauphiné, and the Spanish road race title. So far in 2026, he has won a stage and the overall at the Vuelta a Andalucía; plus a stage at O Gran Camiño.
Among his top achievements is the under-23 time trial world title at the 2024 Zurich World Championships, a performance that underlined his talent and vast room for growth. He has since gone on to prove that talent in the elite ranks.

Iván Romeo

“Extending my contract with Movistar Team through 2030 gives me great peace of mind, knowing I can keep progressing and improving as I’ve done in recent years, which is what I always wanted. I feel very comfortable in this team, everyone knows it and I’ve never hidden it. Having four years ahead is a step forward for me, to keep developing with the same calm that’s worked so far".
"What binds me most to the team is the mutual trust. I feel like a key piece in helping the team progress and having my opinion heard, which I appreciate. We’re taking steps forward, and it makes me feel part of the project".
"For the coming years, it may sound like a cliché, but I always say I want to be a bit better every day, a little better the next year. I’ve never had a season where I went backwards; I’m always very demanding with myself about getting a bit better. It gets harder each time as the level rises, but if I stay on this upward path, it will put me in the fight for top-level races. That’s the step I need: be consistent, bring wins to the team, and be a safe bet.”

Romeo part of Movistar's long-term vision, Unzué says

“Renewing Iván through 2030 reflects the mutual trust and long-term vision we’ve built over these years. He arrived very young, grew within the structure, and became a key figure both on a sporting and human level".
"For us, it was a priority to keep building this project with him, and for him it was as well. When both sides are so clear and trust each other, the decision comes naturally. We’re convinced Iván’s best years are still ahead, and we’re excited that they’ll be with Movistar Team as we fight for the major goals we’ve set.”
"With this extension through 2030, Movistar Team and Iván Romeo strengthen their joint commitment to the development of one of the most promising riders in international cycling and ensure the continuity of one of Spanish cycling’s great hopes for the coming years".
